Chiraltronics: From Ultrafast Symmetry Control to
Quantum Materials

Collective
ionic rotations, known as axial chiral or achiral phonons, can carry
pseudo-angular momentum in quantum materials. These novel quasiparticles can
excite both resonantly and off-resonantly, thereby enabling angular momentum
transfer between quantum and classical systems. Beyond serving as angular
momentum carriers, chiral phonons open new opportunities for
chirality-selective thermotronic applications, including the chiral phonon
diode effect and the chiral phonon Seebeck effect, providing additional degrees
of freedom for device functionality. In this talk, I will discuss how chiral
symmetry in lattice degrees of freedom can be broken through thermal, optical,
and structural driving methods in oxide systems, and present observations of
their ultrafast dynamics.
